About Dahab

Dahab, once a sleepy bedouin fishing village, is located on the South Eastern side of the Sinai Peninsula. With the sea on one side and the beautiful mountains on the other, it is a truly special part of Egypt.

Meaning ‘gold’ in Arabic, Dahab is home to golden sands, beautiful mountain ranges, turquoise sea and a wonderful underwater world. Dahab has now established itself as a world-renowned area for scuba diving, snorkelling and windsurfing.

Dahab is a mixture of tourism meets Bedouin style. The shoreline of Dahab has become home to numerous restaurants, camps, hotels, shops and dive centres. Along the beach area of Masbat, where Alaska Camp is located, restaurants offer a variety of dishes from fresh fish and steaks to pasta and pizzas.
The Bedouin village of Assalah at the north end of town is the place to witness the locals going about their daily business, see the children as they come out of school and run through the streets, the goats and camels roaming freely.

South of Masbat is Mashraba, the shopping area with bazaars selling everything from snorkelling equipment to spices and shisha’s (hubble bubble pipes), hand embroidered bags to dancing toy camels.

A host of activities in and around the local area offers visitors the chance to experience a truly unique part of Egypt. Desert, sea, coffee houses and bazaars, the radiant colours, noise and aroma – all go to make Dahab a special place to visit.
