Siwa
Siwa
The Siwa Oasis is situated in the Western Desert close to the Libyan border. It is Egypt's most remote oasis town and, maybe because of this, the Siwans have developed their own distinct culture. Siwans speak their own language and their jewellery and crafts are exquisite. Most notable are the women in their beautifully embroidered dresses. There are many places to explore here from the citadel and the mountain of the dead, both overlooking the village, to the palm groves and not forgetting taking a dip in Cleopatra's pool. The best way to experience the beauty of Siwa is in the back of a donkey drawn cart. Siwa is unique and probably the most fascinating culture to experience and learn about. |
